So I don’t really have all that much to say about this film that hasn’t already been said, so instead I’m going to answer a question that I can now answer and that some of you might be interested in.
Did Anthony Hopkins deserve to win over Chadwick Boseman?
Honestly, that’s tough for me to answer since they both give phenomenal performances, but if I had to pick one, I’d probably go with Chadwick, since I feel like he carried this film more than Anthony Hopkins carried The Father (imo), but I’m not mad that Anthony won, however what I am mad at is the fact that the Academy completely baited everyone into thinking that Chadwick was going to win, but then they gave the oscar to Anthony, and it just makes me question why they even bothered to change the order of the show or use Chadwick’s image for views when they weren’t going to even give him the oscar, which comes off as so expoitative and manipulative that it’s just completely disgusting and wrong. The Academy has made many mistakes in the past, but this one has made me completely lose any respect I had for the Academy and I have no idea why they keep screwing up over and over. I know this is going to sound really hyperbolic, but this year’s show was one of their most pathetic to date and if they continue to be like this in the future, I’m officially done with them.
