    Jim Gaffigan: Dark Pale

    ★★½

I've enjoyed Gaffigan's work for a long time and a decent portion of this genuinely made me laugh but overall it gives off the impression that he's just fucking around and not even enjoying himself. The "difficult jokes" he tells and acknowledges aren't funny are just jokes with a bunch of random topics he's already talked about crammed together. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Look, I enjoyed seeing this, but if I had never heard of Mario beforehand I'd probably give it 1.5 stars. The plot is absolutely bonkers and I don't think I was ever really that enthralled by it. I'm guessing the screenlife framing was done for budgetary reasons and/or to produce/market it as a sequel to Searching (which I haven't seen), but I don't think it added that much to the movie. There's one strong moment…
