Sweeney Todd is magical. It's really odd saying that it's magical when it's about a man getting revenge by slitting the throat of innocent people. Gruesome, but still magical.
I'm not sure who I would have wanted to direct it if it were anybody but Tim Burton. I have always loved his movies, so a horror/musical was just perfect for him. I don't think it would have been as effective and driven the way that Burton did it.
Granted, I am biased since I have only seen the movie. I have yet to see the stage version, but am hoping to really soon. As much as I love this film, I believe seeing it live will just make me love it so much more.
The soundtrack is just amazing, as is the directing/cinematography. Everything was just done so well for this film.
Just to sum it up, Sweeney Todd is pretty much one of my favorite movies of all time. Mixing my favorite genre (horror) with another favorite (musical) just made a lot of sense. Everyone was just amazing, and is one of the perfect movies out there.
