Green Fish ★★★

Chang-dongs debut, certainly his worst film, but one that shows some hints of the master that had yet to come out. holds some more primitive versions of his signature tropes, from the way he plays with the gangster genre to the fractured way the events play out. some of the best moments in the film play like the best of his works, stuff that reminds me that he would later make Burning and Oasis...and it’s wonderful. it’s just too bad that the rest of the film is pretty severely underwritten and doesn’t register with much dramatic tension or stakes. disappointed, but it’s still a feat when this is your only film that falls below a 4.5/5
