carpenter mastered the art of creating suspense from being trapped.
trapped in a precinct with a gang.
trapped in antarctica with an alien.
trapped in the fog with ghost pirates.
trapped in new york and la.
trapped on mars with ghosts.
trapped in a church with a dude wearing a handlebar moustache who keeps practicing the same card trick over and over again ...and satan.
somehow i never saw prince of darkness when i was younger. great atmosphere and special effects, plus the soundtrack slaps hard.

i loved the black and white sections in the beginning ...until the color popped on the screen and then i was terrified it'd go back to black & white. i still find it impressive how he was able to get every color in some shots.
unfortunately the criterion blu-ray disc kept freezing up at a certain point (which i guess is a thing due to the packaging on a number of the discs) so i had to finish this on criterion channel.
sadness on all accounts.
