Cult of Chucky

Cult of Chucky ★★★½

Less even than the previous outing, but Cult remains fun and creepy, and of course plenty gory. I have some questions about the logistics of the ending, but watching multiple Chucky dolls run around trying to take out an entire hospital is a blast, and Fiona Dourif is a strong lead once again. I’d have liked to see a bit more of Andy Barclay and I have some questions about the final possession, but oh well, there’s more to come. What a strangely durable franchise about a strangely durable plastic doll — that it’s still chugging along down the same story it started back in 1988, now on its 7th outing (of varying genres), is unexpected and impressive. Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this evil doll. Sorry, these evil dolls.
