Liked this a lot - incredible performances from Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya. A bunch of really riveting scenes and awesome building of tension throughout. Everything about this really just clicked.
But - I just generally think it’s difficult to do a historical movie / biopic(?) like this in only two hours. While this was basically as good as you could ask for in that time, thought the focus being primarily on O’Neill’s character left out some of the deeper nuance I would have appreciated surrounding Hampton - granted, his life being horrifyingly cut short makes that even more challenging. While I get no one wants to watch or produce a 3.5 hour movie, I’d much rather that time have been spent here, instead of say, the Irishman.
My expectations might have been a bit different if I honestly knew more about this going in, but still loved it - definitely one of my favorites of the past year.
