Got to catch this one early before it's January 10th wide release. Destin Daniel Cretton's Short Term 12 was one of the most powerful films I've seen in a while and one of my favorite films of last decade. I was looking forward to this ever since I saw his name attached. Unfortunately I feel like his storytelling has lost a lot of what made that film so special for the sake of being oscar bait. Outside of that this is still a great legal drama with lots of heart and I enjoyed the majority of it. Great cinematography and performances.
His next film is a Marvel movie and I'm sure that's going to be fun and exciting but I can't help but wonder the gems we would have seen from Cretton if he had stuck to the small independent scale.
