JP Dalton’s review published on Letterboxd:
After the first song ended, everyone in the room cheered as if it were a broadway play where it is expected to have applause after every song. La La Land is magical, beautiful, colorful, and wonderful. It perfectly simulates golden era musicals when it wants to, and also neatly breaks itself from the cliches when it wants to get more serious. I do wish there were more songs and Ryan Gosling's not the best singer, but the relationship between Emma Stone and Ryan is magnificent. Damien Chazelle put his heart and soul into this film, and it definitely shows through all cinematography, music, and everything else that went to make this film my favorite movie of the year.
