Films of 2018 Ranked
I haven't seen the first movie in The Strangers franchise. The only thing I've seen about it is a review from YourMovieSucksDOTorg, and he hated it. Maybe I'll watch it sometime. I dunno.
The Strangers: Prey at Night took a while to get it's engines running. It kind of starts out like a bland stock, modern horror film, and then with every minute it slowly transforms into a sort of love letter to the fun camp of 80's horror like Friday the 13th or The Slumber Party Massacre. Along with this transformation the film gets more colorful, the deaths get more imaginative and cinematic, and the characters seem to survive worse wounds to their persons. It's an interesting buildup that works, but it doesn't save this film from having a pretty boring first act.
Also top notch song choices.
