Ready Player One

Ready Player One ★★★★½

As someone who was defending this movie from day one, I’m so happy that this was as good, if not better than I thought it would be.

Although it is a love letter to geek culture, the film never wears its homages as badges of honor. Hell, in certain ways, it critiques the very culture it immerses itself in, creating a decent commetary on the consequences of living in a virtual world. Thankfully, it’s also not pretentious, and oodles of fun.

Some of the scenes in this thing will go down as some of the best in Spielberg’s filmography, including the setpiece for the second key, which I won’t dare spoil (unlike some already have).

People have to stop giving Spielberg flak. He’s been in the game for decades, and he’s still killing it, this being no exception.
