Escape from New York

Escape from New York ★★★★★

carpenter slows down the hawksian fast-paced rhythms of movement and dialogue into a glacial flow of neon synths and cynical one-liners. it's painfully minimalist, a fulcrum point between 70s urban decay and 80s analog futurism, a balanced array of western mythology & grindhouse trashiness. the future has never looked so pitch-black.

imagine being alive in 1981 and getting to see this, mad max 2 and raiders of the lost ark in the same summer! the birth of the modern action film.
