Until this film, I’ve always been of the belief that judgement of art itself should be entirely separated from the people and the circumstances by which it is created. This is a dumb movie. A really dumb movie. To pick it apart and belittle it would be like making fun of a profoundly disabled kid because I’m pretty sure this is how the writers perceive us as a general audience. Therefore, I’m not sure tearing it apart would be very fair.

A highly unconventional western that does not unfold like the trailer would have you believe. The brutal nature of much of the film combines sharply with the nihilistic aspects. While you commend it for how confidently it rips away the glamor of the West, you’ll realize just how much you’ve grown attached to these characters. Plays like a lost episode of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, but with more profound impact. This is the 2018 western that deserves your attention.

Inconsistencies and conveniences aside, it's still fucking epic.

Also, if you hated Tom Hardy as Bane, we simply can't be friends. He's menacing, brutal, and never stops inspiring me to remember to work traps at the gym.

The fact this film failed at the box office proves we don’t deserve nice things.
