Think 'Ghost in the Shell' reboot, but with more heart. I need more Rocketball.
A huge step up from Apocalypse, but still well short of Logan, DoFP, and even First Class. A low-budget superhero flick that trades on a (poorly directed, but generally) really solid cast, an ending which benefitted from rewrites to avoid being too close to Cpt. Marvel, and nostalgia for what the Fox X-verse could have been if every film had gotten the love and respect that Logan clearly did. I can't wait for Marvel to pave over every single one…
An absolutely brutal viewing experience. I wasn't prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions that this film will walk you through, starting at basically minute one. Great subtle visual effects in the back half of the film that distract you just enough to make Aster's point. Some characters get their just deserts, but are we (the audience) the real monsters for wanting it so?
