    Sicario: Day of the Soldado

    ½

Inferior to the first in every way. The humanizing role of Blunt's character is left unfilled, and her absence is keenly felt. The stakes are never as high, nor are the action scenes as tense or compelling. Sicario was a film that didn't need a sequel, and as far as I'm concerned, this doesn't deserve to be its successor.

  • The Florida Project

    The Florida Project

    ★★★★

Equal measures charming and heart-crushingly depressing. Willem Dafoe takes a backseat to an intimate portrait of povertery outside the gates of the Magic Kingdom, as seen by those who still believe in the fairy tales made real mere miles away.

  • Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

    Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

    ★★★

A decent ensemble cast and a few slight deviations from the MI narrative formula serve to fill the minutes between action set-pieces and tense spy vs. spy maneuvering.
