Zootopia ★★½

The animation is impressive, but Zootopia is a visually uninteresting and thematically lazy film, its anti-racism allegory coming from a good place but spoon-feeding its themes in an altogether uninteresting manner. There was a time when Disney routinely made films for children that were still gorgeous and used animation style to develop the relevant emotions, and Zootopia's existence is further evidence that we are in no supposed resurgence of the Golden Age of Disney. I understand that this film is meant for children, but look no further than Moana and Air Bud: World Pup to find visually compelling films that use the language of cinema to interesting ends while also remaining entertaining for the youngest of our species.
