With The Apartment being one of my favourite films I had high hopes for this which saw Wilder, Lemmon and MacLaine working together again and it didn’t disappoint. It’s Wilder at his most bizarre with a whacky and very funny story that never dulled once. Both Lemmon and MacLaine were incredible and once again had brilliant chemistry. I also loved the ending and I think it’s really underrated especially in Wilders seriously impressive filmography.

Dune: Part Two 2024
An instant classic and a sci-fi epic for the ages. Up there with the very best looking films ever made and with an incredible story that leaves you wishing it was longer even after nearly 3 hours (this is coming from a person that desperately needed a piss). It’s themes of the dangers of religion and power were striking I even find myself comparing it with the likes of The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather. Blockbuster’s this incredible don’t come around very often and this years releases so far have been phenomenal.

American Fiction 2023
This was a very clever and funny film with great performances about literary stereotypes. I’ve always been a fan of Jeffrey Wrights and it’s good to see him getting lead roles like this because he’s brilliant in everything I’ve seen him in.

20 Days in Mariupol 2023
Calling this a hard watch is an understatement. The footage captured here is very important in showcasing the atrocities of war that have occurred in Ukraine. The stuff in the hospital was particularly horrific to witness. The camera operator asking questions did feel unnecessary at times. For instance when the guy is placing bodies into a mass grave and he’s pointing a camera in his face and asking how he’s feeling I mean what do you think he’s going to say?

Dune: Part Two 2024
“Lead them to paradise.”
This is only the 2nd time I’ve seen a film at the cinema 3 times and that’s credit to just how phenomenal this really is. I’ve never wanted to read the book that a film is based on more than Dune either so I’m going to be getting on that next and I more or less never read books. Probably going to give my bank account a rest now till this is released physically (but don’t tempt me).

Poor Things 2023
My most anticipated film of the year has delivered! Like with Babylon last year it’s the very first film released this year I’ve seen and I reckon it will be very hard to top.
It’s difficult to find a fault in this film. It’s an incredibly creative, weird and wonderful way to tell a coming of age story with incredible word building and brilliant comedy. Every frame looked phenomenal and like nothing else I’ve seen before. Stone was at her…
