watched the 3 hour directors cut as my first impression of this since i didn’t get around to seeing it theaters, and i have to say, it kept me engaged and held my attention for its entire runtime! aside from some stupid looking effects here and there, this is genuinely disturbing at times and i really enjoyed it. the recreations of scenes and sets of the original shining are incredibly impressive and look great, but are definitely used in some heavy handed ways at times, so i wish that they had been integrated a little more subtly.
the horror elements are kind of underwhelming but the ending, and follow through with the opening, was pretty smart, which i appreciated. some nice thematic nods to some classic horror sequences from the 60’s/70’s/80’s. also i love denise richards in this for the incredibly minimal screen time she gets lmao.
ROUND TWO WAS EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST!
there is so many subtle details in the body language and direction of the characters that you begin to notice upon second viewing that has made me fall deeper in love with this film
also has managed to make me cry watching it both times consecutively which is like insane? for a horror film
