Ok DAMN is this movie good. A film that uses everything from costuming and set design to intentionally bad and “fake” moments to critique the artifice of crushing gender binaries and the artifice of western constructions of American norms and ideals.
It’s often beautifully shot, but intentionally “off” in ways that draw the eye to the construction of the movie and how it plays with the audience’s expectations. More than a hint of a critique of MCCarthyism as a posse…
