In 2020 Edgar Wright and the rest of the world found themselves at a moment in time where just about everything was shut down including the most important part of our lives; The cinemas. In desperate search for entertainment, Edgar found himself vigorously watching through his neglected stacks of unwatched physical media. In that process he found himself checking off some of the great works of foreign cinema as once documented by one Martin Scorsese. After completing Marty's 39 favorite foreign films he decided to give the man a quick "Thank You" for creating such an inspiring list.
At the end of the letter, Edgar included a PostScript asking Marty if he wouldn't mind sharing some of his personal favorite British films. Setting aside the usual love for Powell and Pressburger, Hitchcock, and Lean, Edgar was in search of something more personal.
What Edgar received back was an overwhelming list of British cinema that held a special place in Marty's eyes. And as one does, Edgar shared this list with his good friend Quentin Tarantino. From there they began trading their own personal choices of British cinema.
Thus was born Edgar, Marty, and Quentin's very particular Quarantacular "British Book Club".
The following is a list of the films mentioned on THE EMPIRE FILM PODCAST as discussed by Edgar, Quentin, and host Chris Hewitt.
