    Loved watching Eleanor in her most conservative nineties attire talk calmly about how thrilling it was to see the ritual sacrifice of a water buffalo and how exciting it was to see her husband plumb the depths of his soul to the brink of suicide. Talk about having an untapped dark side!

    I recently watched several movies (Philidelphia and The Lives of Others to name two) where the transformation of the main character is somewhat forced and doesn’t feel believable. And I don’t know what the secret ingredient is but they nailed it with this movie. I really understood and believed his change.

    Overall, it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s well made, features very-appreciated male vulnerability, and made me cry about 10 times.

    This movie is a lot more bleak than it means to be - you have to be a slave to get anywhere in your career. Give up your humanity. As a woman, you have to have sex appeal to get anywhere. Women have to work ten times as hard as men to be successful, and betray their friends, and no man will stick around. I mean, there’s truth to these things, but I don’t think it’s the tone the movie…
