The aesthetic of this film is iconic for its time and continues to birth progeny to this day - but I've never been a fan of the style. I appreciate the impact, but find it soulless and I couldn't get past the cheesey cityscape backdrops, noodling guitar solos, indulgent lingering on melodrama, and 3 hour runtime. Despite that, I really liked some of the directorial choices and street-based set design. Obviously I came for the leads, and they delivered.
