A better experience than the first couple times I've watched it, but my opinion of it hasn't really changed. As far as I'm concerned, this is a perfect film that falls apart completely when the Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite section starts up, at which point it basically devolves into a psychedelic student film.

Fortunately, I didn't feel like I needed to throw the baby out with the bath water this time. The rest of the film is still pretty much magic and enough superlatives have been thrown at it that I don't really need to say much more.

HAL is only getting scarier as time goes by and the film does feature two of what I consider to be the creepiest scenes ever: the monolith appearing on the moon and moment we realize HAL can read lips.

Still, it's hard to walk away from it satisfied. It's like meeting someone at a party, enjoying a stimulating conversation with them and then, just as they're about to leave, finding out their favorite band is Limp Bizkit.
