Logan ★★★★★

I'll give it some time to simmer before ranking atop such an increasingly crowded field, but certainly a landmark in comic book movies, and honestly, the first one I've ever seen that deserves an awards season campaign in several categories on its on merits.

An instantly iconic swansong that instead of pandering to the usual comic book beats, marries established characters to genre archetypes to tell a larger story about loyalty, what it means to live, and what it means to die. Logan easily succeeds on its own outside the franchise, but like the X-Mens film at their best, anchors all of its (in this case, brutal) violence in emotion, which makes the frequent tender moments all the more special, with earned payoffs for those who've been with Logan and Xavier since the beginning. This is a masterpiece.
