Auteur-driven doggy cinema. Now there's a genre I can really get behind.
Cheers to @BrandonHabes and his super reviews for convincing me to finally take the plunge into the wonderful world of all things Reichardt. It's everything I could've hoped for and then some.
Finely tuned minimalism at it's very best, there's rarely a character study as steeped in truth yet wholly engaging as this. It does drain you, as emotionally crushing as it obviously is, but it doesn't forget to leave you with that little glimmer of hope. That sign that goodness does exist in the world, however small.
The most obvious comparison I could make is that it's like Umberto D for the modern age, cellphones and all. But maybe even more personally affecting due to Lucy being the complete double of our own golden lab, Honey! A great one that I may not be in a rush to watch again any-time soon.
