First time rewatching this since I was a kid and saw it at way too young an age.  My dad had rented the Betamax back in the late 70s....

This time I watched the new German 4k HDR release.

Wow.  So much better than I remembered and so much less blood or gore.  The terror is purely situational and hooper cranks up the dread all the way.

    One for the ages.

Fulci doesn’t disappoint with this sleazy, drug fueled early giallo classic.

He leans a bit more on the gore than Argento of the same period, but also features similarly complex/convoluted plotting, bright colors and great camerawork and scores.  Not to mention a healthy dose of psycho sexual intrigue

This one one is a devious mystery with some great set pieces and bonkers sequences.  The ending is gripping, acid laced, and anchored by great performances and a throbbing score by Ennio moriccone.

An absolute masterpiece with much on its mind.

On a purely technical level, the film is simply stunning.  Every shot is a work of art and all of the pieces fit together like finely honed, intricate workings of a complicated watch.

The performances are perfection and at times devastating.

Weaving humor at the beginning with the undercurrent of sadness and building tragedy the films climax is heartbreaking, poignant and inevitable.

    What will Bong do next?

Just rewatched after seeing OUATIH and revised my rating upward.   It’s just a stone cold masterpiece and feels like it whizes by despite it’s run time.

Every performance is phenomenal, but QTs script - largely in french and German - is the real star.

    Feel like rewatching it again.
