Hard for me to be on board when the film isn’t condemning its central conceit, which stunts any emotional gravitas and tension from the world we’re thrown into. A stunning misfire that seems to trade more ambiguous and raw emotional elements from its source material for something so straightforward. It doesn’t sound like the M. Night films that offer a bite by the end, which at least turn out as an admirable swing and a miss, rather than a consistent knock out of the park. Some solid performances and camera work do all but nothing unfortunately in the midst of this casual and polished side of Shyamalan. Makes Old raise in estimation, which I never would have imagined.
