Subtle and sad yet also emotional and bold. Really impressive filmmaking here!
I can definitely say that this was an incredibly and impeccably well put together film even if I myself am not exactly it's specific target demographic audience person, so to say.
A little bit of the joy and awe was ripped from me when quite often wide shots would reveal my own neighborhood and force me to realize that while this fantastical glorious fake romance was blossoming I myself, a real human being, was but a mile away, toiling against…
There are several admirable aspects of this film (that soundtrack! The cinematography!) but Nicolas Cage's performance is not one of them, alas. And oof!
Cage being 'Cage' (and, uh, Trump) is awkward and ham-fisted and completely undermines feeling real emotions for the rest of the characters in the film. The audience laughing at his performance throughout at my screening tonight very much deflated the balloon of tension the film kept trying to build up. Oh well!
