I question the decision to insert the sound of a man moaning in the act of orgasm every time a new victim turns up. Really poor.

I live in an area where you can get on a rural highway and drive 30-40 miles in any direction and find small shadow communities similar to the one depicted in Winter's Bone. Obviously, there is a story to tell and the writers tweak certain things in the language and characterizations to generate suspense, but this movie feels real. Authentic.

Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding and Dale Dickey gives a performance that makes you yearn for a whole movie about her. But John Hawkes steals the show. You can't take your eyes off of him in any scene that he is in.
