Look, a lot of films suffer from too much exposition. So rarely do you watch something that you’re imploring the creator for more background. After a brief opening narration, we jump right into action with Underwater, to the point it feels like this was a 2 hour movie chopped down to 90 minutes.

Some good thrills, but definitely a multiple years old (long enough on the shelf that TJ Miller appears) January dump by the studios.

Kristen Stewart does solid work in the lead and almost makes the overarching “This is a metaphor for grief” idea work. Almost.

Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely a cute, beautifully animated tale that deservedly bumped Frozen II out of the Oscar race.

Fascinating material and footage, but the narration never pulls you in.

A social thriller masterpiece, Director Bong creates a world so suffocating yet sumptuous, I would imagine most directors would just throw their hands up in awe after seeing it. To talk too much about the story would be to spoil, and it must be experienced. Mostly incredible company of actors, with Song Kang Ho as the standout portraying the patriarch of a family of con artists. Only minor quibbles, with Choi Woo Shik not quite able to hold his own in the central role in comparison to those around him, and a denouement that lessens the blow of the garden party finale. A must-see.
