Honey Boy ★★★½

Shia LeBeouf's script is autobiographical, switching between two timelines. The earlier, with Shia portraying his own father and Noah Jupe the 12-year-old "Otis" is harrowing, a startling look at child stardom. The later timeline, with Lucas Hedges as an addicted, troubled 22-year-old, is less successful, a retread of rehab stories that have been told time and time again.
