Bluebeard Movies—an Anna Biller selection

For her next movie, filmmaker Anna Biller (Viva, The Love Witch) is working on a version of the Bluebeard fairytale—rich and/or powerful and/or murderous man meets innocent younger woman, attempts to control/ruin her life, usually meets his comeuppance.

“I decided to make a Bluebeard movie because I realized that a lot of my favorite movies are Bluebeard movies, and I think these types of stories have a special appeal to women.”

We asked Anna to recommend her favorite classic Bluebeard films for us. Her selection of classics accompanies our Q+A with the writer/director.
