I simply have too many thoughts about this to process right now but I ended up sobbing as the credits rolled because the take away of the final act seemed to be that justice for rape victims (in the form of an arrest by the police, of course) will only occur when they end up dead. I guess that could be Emerald Fennell's point, but the celebratory/humorous tone of the gotcha! ending rubbed me the wrong way and left me feeling quite sad and empty. IDK! I was loving the movie for most of the time but the ending completely threw me off.

more thoughts upon reflection: this movie centers two women whose entire identities are defined by a rape and both end up dead, which isn't a particularly wonderful message to send to sexual assault survivors, especially when this is the "me too" movie Hollywood has decided to embrace. also, the premise of a rape and revenge movie is that the survivor gets to face some sort of justice or emotional catharsis at the end, neither of which happens here :/ i don't hate this movie (and I do think there are many wonderfully written scenes in it which people would benefit to watch), but the more i think about it the more issues i find
