Batman ★★★★½

burton's last film before his hard nosedive into expressionism (not that he wasn't already on his way with this). perfect melding of classical sensibilities and 80s neon goo shit; the scene of joker and his men splattering gotham museum's collection (which includes da vinci, degas, rembrandt, and joker's fav francis bacon) with vibrantly colored paint works as a metaphor for burton's approach to the material, which schumacher would take to unholy extremes in his "sequels." the best Batman.
