I think it’s a beautiful movie. Both thematically and, especially, visually. Really amazing shots. But, weirdly, the plot is just not enough, feels like a thread to put it all together is missing, somehow, so it’s kind of tiring and hits sort of bland.

this movie is literally perfect, one of my favorites of all time, it is has the powerful effect of witchcraft, it’s a mystical odyssey of the eschatological element of the destiny of the poor and exploited of Brazil, moving between the millenarianism of folk catholic syncretism and the folklore of the banditism of the cangaceiros, it is deeply universal and also local and regional, and it culminates as a cry for liberation of the people and the overthrow of landowner, government and God all at once. It is a movie on divine violence, history, faith, oppression and liberation.
