Wendy and Lucy

Wendy and Lucy ★★★★★

Top ten best films I've seen all year for the first time. Feels like a Dardenne film or something from De Sica in English in the best way.

If I could compare this to anything, it would be Umberto D. I think this is even better and I love that film to death. There's so much to unpack here. Every single character is being crushed under the thumb of capitalism, even if they aren't aware. Including Wendy's dog Lucy who is obviously the most innocent and unaware of why she ends up in the circumstances that she does.

A nearly perfect tragedy that resonated with me on a very deep level. I recommend it to everyone reading this, especially since it just got added to Amazon Prime if you have it. It's short and sweet, but prepare yourself to watch something very heavy if you decide to throw it on. It's far from misery porn, but it's also extremely far from optimistic. Masterpiece of indie filmmaking.
