Reviewing something as overwhelming as Stalker is well above my pay grade. I'll make one simple observation: the art of the moving picture is almost always associated with sights and sounds. In Stalker, Tarkovsky goes beyond these two senses by simulating the sense of touch. Every item in every shot is deeply textured; my brain was converting the directors visual information into a simulation of sensual touch through his exhaustively meticulous use of texture. Not even Kubrick could make my brain do that. I am in awe.
