Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory ★★★★★

This movie is brilliant. It's as bizarre as it is adventurous and lights a fire into the spirit of your long lost childhood. Yet, the film's dark twisted side is so egregiously forefront, that it becomes subtle in the backdrop of a magical world of candy. You forget quick the destitute state of the Bucket family, the infectious spread of greed and the inherit mortal danger the children appear to be in throughout the movie.

Gene Wilder is brilliant and absolutely insane. The role suits him so well, it's uncanny. And he takes his role down a dark path and never returns. In the context of the book, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', the kids are never in any true danger. In this film though, the depiction is quite opposite.

The film also has wondrous and iconic musical numbers. Not only from our beloved Oompa Loompas but from Gene Wilder, Jack Albertson and Peter Ostrum. Though the movie departs extremely from the book in several aspects, this movie is something wonderful and cherished.
