This film was absolutely gorgeous. From the hypnotizing pans between subjects, done so effortlessly, to the impossible orchestra of all the different modes of storytelling, what better way to consume me whole and make me forget I’m just in a fantasy.

First things first: the set design was absolutely phenomenal. It fascinates me to see how instrumental intersecting all of the arts is for Kubrick but in a broader sentiment how transcendental cinema can become.

A Clockwork Orange fires on all cylinders, becoming a ghastly juxtaposition on what entirely makes us human and inhuman. The uncomfortable idiosyncrasy that our humanity is at the cost of inhumanity. A questioning that is easily unsettling, disturbing. Our own incongruence struck right into our very eyes.

Film critic Vincent Canby perhaps summed it best: a brilliant and dangerous work, but it is dangerous in a way that brilliant things sometimes are.

Unequivocally one of the worst films greenlit for production. And amongst all propaganda media, this really tops it as one of the most tasteless. If you’re gonna make propaganda at least make it worth watching. If you’re gonna be a malicious piece of media, don’t be lazy. Do it in style at least, yikes.
