Matt DeTurck’s review published on Letterboxd:
Very much a "kids first crime noir" with a bunch of stuff for adults, and LOADS for Pokemon fans - and it pulls off its mix of audience and tones. But it oddly drags until Pikachu shows up, and then, after that, the plot is strangely convoluted with lots of 11th-hour reveals/twists.
But that said, it's got a great look, the Pokemon look amazing, the human performances are committed to the tone and style, and it's definitely a lot of fun. Would absolutely watch more films in this universe.
Why isn't Jackman's end-credit arrangement of the Pokemon Red/Blue theme on the soundtrack!?
