Dunno why I decided to watch this since I've never seen the show but this was pretty good! Really good animation, some solid jokes and didn't overstay its welcome.

Carter 2022
The faux "one take" gimmick is really poorly executed because even if Jung Byung-gil did have to edit takes together to get that aesthetic, it feels like he never filmed a take that was longer than 4 seconds anyway! The action is well choreographed I suppose but none of it works because the camera is too busy having to zoom or pan or spin and you can never invest in any one moment.
Ultimately this was just a super ambitious…

Hit the Road 2021
Definitely going to try to see this again before it leaves cinemas because there's a really interesting reading of the film that I'd love to rewatch it through the lens of but even outside of that this was great. Definitely owes a debt to the greats of Iranian cinema (of whom Panah Panahi is personally acquainted) but I love the way the frame shrinks the characters in the most emotional of moments but struggles to contain them in the most…

Fire of Love 2022
Genuinely touching love story set against a backdrop of some of the most incredible natural footage I've ever seen.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller 1971
You can't play the game if you don't play by their rules. It doesn't matter what safety you think you have, they can swallow you whole just the same.

The Maltese Falcon 1941
Just an all-round solid film noir. Pretty much the formula for an entire genre though I must say I like my noir to have a bit more sexual tension and moral ambiguity. Bogart is still an absolute charisma machine here though.

Wings of Desire 1987
Genuinely feels comforting to imagine there's just angels watching over us and wanting the best for us. I do wanna apologise to the angels that have watched over me though, I've absolutely done nothing but disappoint them

Where the Crawdads Sing 2022
The most generic story told in the least interesting way possible with a comatose romance and cliché-riddled script. Super boring!
The Taylor Swift song slaps tho

Game Night 2018
Annoyed it took me so long to watch this but man this is a blast. Rare that I enjoy a modern comedy this much and even rarer that I can definitely see myself rewatching it!
