    Seven is a film that on paper could have got lost in the crowd. It’s filled with movie cliches, from the retiring detective working his last case to the two guys who don’t like each other having to work side by side. But somehow everything works brilliantly.

    I may not think this is the absolute masterpiece that many people do, but it’s pretty damn good. 

    The world-building is painfully realistic and believable, painting a bleak landscape of the near-future where all hope truly feels lost. From the cars to the societal breakdown, it covers a vast amount of detail whilst never getting bogged down in it.

    Just want to express my sadness at how overlooked this film has been in terms of Academy Awards recognition.

    I know some films like Uncut Gems, Midsommar and The Farewell didn’t get a single nomination - which I also think is ridiculous - but I really think The Lighthouse deserves to be competing in at least 6 major categories (score, cinematography, actor, supporting actor, director and picture).
