Daniel Cruse’s review published on Letterboxd:
This rips. Eggers knows what we hope for with this kind of movie and delivers a Viking epic full of blood, guts, screaming shirtless men, and sorcery.
I will see anything he makes at this point, he’s proven himself with three movies in a row as someone who is unrelenting in achieving his vision. I imagine it was hard to sell a lot of his choices to a studio, and I am glad he stuck to his guns.
The Northman is methodical, unforgiving, and certainly not for everyone, but it is the kind of movie we could use more of.
