Terminator: Dark Fate

Terminator: Dark Fate ★★★½

Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) is a modestly enjoyable entry in a franchise that's long overstayed it's welcome. Not even close to being as good as the original two classics but at the same time, it's a massive improvement over the unfathomably God-awful Terminator Genisys and probably the best in the series since T2: Judgement Day.

Where Genisys failed with it's watered down PG-13 rating, this one makes up for with some really fun, exciting and intense R-rated action. The lead trio of characters were likable and had endearing chemistry with each other. Linda Hamilton returning as Sarah Connor was especially fantastic! Even though he doesn't have much story purpose, it was so great and really damn satisfying to see the legend himself: Arnold Schwarzenegger be back as the T-800 one last time.

Unfortunately this film does suffer from a generic and recycled story line with almost every plot element having already been done better in either of the first two movies. Scenes of characters giving exposition were dull, drawn out and pretty tedious. The writing wasn't the best and there were changes to the franchise's timeline that I found very questionable. They didn't sit well with me and came off as more stupid than properly thought out.

Still, even with all it's glitches and malfunctions, Terminator: Dark Fate is an enjoyable sci fi flick. I wouldn't call it a must watch but if you're a fan of the first two movies, this is worth at least one look into the future.

Rating: 7/10. Grade: B-. Hasta La Vista Baby!
