BlacKkKlansman

BlacKkKlansman ★★★★½

watching this with a packed, energized house at the Vista - built atop the Hollywood ruins of D.W. Griffith's Babylon - on the one year anniversary of Charlottesville was both sobering and electric; hate is here, it has always been here, and it's our duty to call it by its own ugly name then beat it back into the earth. that should not be news.

Spike's style is absolutely sensational throughout - hitting an ecstatic register that you might call out of control if he weren't so deftly orchestrating each and every shift of tone, dialectic, and rhythm in movements that manage to be playful and profound in their damnation. and also so so sexy, that dance scene under the velvety mellow light
