Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★★

How do you want to read this film?

I don’t know. I suppose I sort of see it as a deconstruction of myths we’ve built up around American icons. But it’s also an homage to those things.

Yes, yes. But can it not be about the melancholia of getting lost deep inside your own nostalgia?

Oh, most certainly. It is that. That is a lonely feeling but I don’t know if this is a particularly lonely film.

Of course not. Of course you don’t. Everyone in it is experiencing his or her own melancholy but they’re existing as part of a community while doing it. As outsiders we have a difficult time seeing them as lonely because we only see people commingling. To watch a crowd gives us a pleasant feeling, doesn’t it? Doesn’t make the individuals less lonely.

Hard disagree, friend. Community is the antidote. It is no mere bandage nor is it the wound.

I reject your hypothesis.
