    The opening sequence had me thinking this was going to be special.

    What could be described as a gritty reboot of the myth of The Little Mermaid, The Lure is a chaotic mess of too many ideas that are treated with too little dignity, deliberation, and focus.     Schizophrenic and strung up on style, I found myself often bored by a story that had no compelling characters within it.

    Perhaps my tastes have changed, but any "poeticism" this might share with cinema from France at the same period is just not enough for me these days.

    Solid containment thriller. Starts to feel like it’s running on fumes toward the second act as the specifics of the location don’t provide enough diversity and novelty. Performs a hard feat of building strong characters through a kinetic onslaught, but too many of the inevitable deaths feel a little cheap. Great style and intimacy with the world.
