There’s a moment toward the end where I actually yelled and kicked involuntarily at the air in front of me.
What a bonkers, gorgeous movie. Yes, Keanu Reeves is spectacularly miscast. Yes, some of the ideas and storylines don’t go anywhere. But what a beautifully made, intoxicating film.
Coppola’s call to rely on old-school, non-CGI effects means the whole thing feels operatic and over the top in the best possible way. I can’t imagine anyone trying to make a mainstream horror/drama even half this weird today.
