Sisters 1972
I like the tone of the first two-thirds better, when it's a weird dePalma-y mishmash of procedural thriller and also people talking and being funny; but the whole thing really works for me on basically every level. It's hard for me to think of another director who's so consistently entertaining and I really appreciate it! The last shot made me cheer OUT LOUD and I loved it.

Valley Girl 1983
I know a key element of the love triangle structure is that the lead cannot at any point consider the possibility of ending up with NEITHER choice; but Steve is such a fucking pisshead that I needed SOMEONE besides Randy to put up some resistance to the idea of Julie getting back together with him. Again, I know this is a relic of its time but it's very weird to me that Julie has to be physically pried away from…

Night Drive 2019
This unfortunately got on my bad side almost immediately when the 40ish Uber driver and his hot 22-year-old passenger, who have never met before, both come straight out of the gate with their best Playfully Antagonistic material as if they were in the middle of a meet-cute. I'm not saying I would object to a romance between a driver and their passenger (even though that's very much NOT where this goes), but I really needed one of them to acknowledge…

The Lovebirds 2020
Look I know getting kicked in the chest by a horse would hurt a lot, but grease burns on your face would be EXCRUCIATING, like yes you'd have scarring and that might affect your love life but also you'd be in SO MUCH PAIN??? All I'm saying is, after seeing both options I would still take the horse.
Issa Rae is SO PRETTY I cannot deal, and I really appreciate that the plot found a reason for her and Kumail…

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 2004
If’s been many years since I’ve seen this and at this point in my life I think I like it much more than Vol 1. Part of that is just the fact that I am much more fluent in the language of cinema than I was as a teenager, and can appreciate much more of the film. But part of it is that Vol 2 deals with a much wider range of emotions than the previous films, and as an adult I just find that much more interesting and appealing.
Also Pai Mei. Pai Mei rules.

Under the Cherry Moon 1986
Was pretty charmed by the first half hour of this, but attention started to dwindle as it went on. Watched it with a group chat on Twitch though, where my waning attention found purpose in debating the best Singers - Turned - Actors (group consensus: Cher); but I'd really like to see this in the theater and give it my full attention.
Maybe there, where stories feel perfect and powerful, I could get more successfully seduced by Prince and his bonkers vision.

Nope 2022
My only gripe is that the horses weren't listed in the credits, and you know how I love an animal credit (unless they were listed way late in the credits and I didn't see them)
Was happy Gordy was clearly CGI, and it proved that you don't need to use real animals for scenes to be effective as the Gordy scenes are some of the most terrifying and heartbreaking.
Every time Keke was on screen I was scoping her outfits . Garfield shirt, rad! RIP N DIP jeans, rad! Cowboy boots with skeletons on them? Tattoo it on my body! A+ wardrobe dept. -

May 2002
Look, Jeremy Sisto is doing a great job at portraying what we'd now call a Sexually Competent Dirtbag but I would spontaneously combust if Anna Faris looked at me like that and talked to me like that!! I spent the whole first half yelling "LOOK ALIVE MAY!! SHE'S SUPER INTO YOU!!!!" I also love that Anna Faris apparently shows up to her veterinarian job every day dressed to go clubbing, what a queen.
Anyway May is an amazing character and…

Blade Runner 1982
A remarkable feat of design.
But.
Seems to me on this rewatch that the movie succeeds in spite of Scott seemingly being at war with the script he set out to shoot. A sophisticated, futuristic noir on the surface, the movie is straightforward b-movie shlock in its bones. Ford's Deckard is no clever private dick, he's just muscle, a slave like the replicants he's chasing down. Young's Rachel isn't a femme fatale, just a poor, pretty victim of science and…
