"For the prey to live the predator must sometimes die."
Full disclosure...I have not read the book and was solely interested in seeing this film since I'm a Daisy Edgar-Jones fan. With that out of the way I will say I did very much enjoy her performance and the score here. The rest of the film was mostly fine, just didn't fully work for me personally in the end. Very predictable throughout minus the final twist (which I appreciated at least being genuinely surprised by). Also low key felt like a Lifetime Movie Network film half the time...
So all in all it's really Daisy Edgar-Jones Jones virtually film carrying performance as Kya Clark that slightly edged this feature past mediocrity for me. I took my mother who has read the book and she seemed to enjoy it quite a bit more than I did. With that said, Olivia Newman's 'Where The Crawdads Sing' will probably work best for fans of the source material in the end. Although I still definitely say it's worth a watch for Daisy Edgar-Jones fans as well!
